Roxie frowned as soon as she heard the door to her apartment open. She and Rain were chilling in the living room. Well, technically Rain was knocked out on the loveseat, while she pretended to be interested in television.

Roxie didn’t look up or acknowledge him when he walked in the room. She kept her eyes focused on the LED TV like he didn’t even exist.

Despite all the shit he talked, Magyc silently took a seat next to Roxie on the sofa. Succumbing to the anxieties of the day, he dropped his head in her lap like a child to his mother.

“I’m sorry,” he said, exasperated. “I’m sorry about everything I said. I’m sorry about everything I did. I’m sorry for not keepin’ it real wit’chu. I don’t wanna fight, bay. I’ll be the man you need me to be. Just tell me what I gotta do and I’ll do it. I don’t wanna lose you, Rox. I ain’t ready to walk away from us and what we’ve built. I promise I’mma change. Just tell me what’chu want. Tell me what’chu need from me. What I gotta do to make you feel secure? I’ll do anything in my power to keep you happy ‘cuz there ain’t no future without you…”

“Magyc, all I need from you is honesty and commitment. That’s all I want. Can you do that?”

He buried his face in the soft skin of her stomach. “Yes. I’ll do whatever it takes,” he said. “You apart of me now. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I lost you. It’d be like losing part of myself. You make me whole, Rox.”

Roxie released a deep breath. He always knew how to break down her walls of defense. What to say to weasel his way back in her heart. Magyc had her ass wrapped around his finger and he knew it.

“Magyc, I love you but I am not gonna compete for you—”

“You don’t have to. I’m through with the fuck shit. I’m done gambling on our relationship. Losin’ my family ain’t worth the risk. I swear, from here on out, I’mma be the man you and Rain need me to be.”

“You also need to be the man Marlon needs you to be.”

Magyc fell silent. After carefully considering what she was asking he said, “I’mma do what I gotta do.”

Grateful towards his willingness to compromise, Roxie leaned down and kissed him. “You have to promise me that from now on it’s just me…”

“I promise.”

Roxie strongly hoped he kept his word this time.

“Can I ask you a favor?” he said.

Roxie looked skeptical. “You think you in the position to be asking favors?” His ass was still in the doghouse, and there was nothing clever he could say to get him out of it.

“Chill, I ain’t ‘bout to ask you nothin’ crazy, girl,” he laughed. “I just wanted to know if you could free up some time tomorrow to look at a couple houses with me.”

“Houses? Wow. You really ready to take that leap?”

Magyc slowly stood to his feet and tugged her up as well.
